When Are You "Too Old" to Trick or Treat?
Last night whilst hoarding all my candy from my parents gorging myself with Sour Patch Kids I was sort of blue when I came to the realization that I probably wouldn't be having this much candy in from of me again. I sort of believed that it was practically a social expectation to stop trick or treating before you get into high school. I genuinely believed that I would never be able to knock on people doors on the 31st anymore even though I was handing out candy to kids who looked like they just got home from a 9 to 5 job.
What I think Halloween will be like in future year
While on my way home from trick or treating in my friends neighbourhood his dad was dropping me off at my home, it was about a solid 15 minute drive. He mentioned something pretty interesting to me, he told us about how after he was done middle school he pretty much had gone to parties rather than trick or treating. The first thing I thought of were those drunk high school parties in movies like Incoming, and I literally remember holding back an "oh hell nah." Now something you should know about me is that my parents are immigrants from the Middle East, yes I get a lot of jokes about terrorism (it was funny than it got annoying.) So my parents don't have any stories to tell about your North-American Holidays like Christmas or Easter or Halloween. Thus, I found it pretty interesting hearing an adult talking about their celebrated Holidays; it was almost as if I was getting a glimpse into the future. I really don't know what to expect but I'm sure the future comes with surprises.
When Is it actually too old to go Trick or Treating?
Well this comes with lots of different opinions but honestly I don't think there is a border line age to where the average person should just stop. In my opinion, I just don't feel like the same spark happens when I get that candy anymore. Halloween as a holiday hasn't felt the same in a long time in my opinion. That's what I mean, You should stop once the spark fades, because there are other ways to make holidays fun rather than doing what other people do. This comes with limitations obviously, like if you are an adult don't trick or treat that's where I'd draw the line.
Final Thoughts
It's easy to think of Halloween or maybe even Christmas as a holiday meant for kids, it involves candy, costumes, figures of people that don't exist and just being silly or childish overall. But the idea behind these actions all have a recurrent theme behind them, simply having a good time. Nobody should ever be shamed for participating in activities as long as they enjoy them and the sad part is that as kids become teens they look at what others do and follow the same path. However, that's not what people have to do so my final advice to you is to try something that other people wouldn't expect you to do, for me it was starting this blog in the first place. For you maybe its starting an agency or a starting some sort of club at your school or simply just getting a gym membership and I can guarantee you it will help build your character in some sort of way. Maybe this was all just yap but hopefully one of y'all found this valuable.
